Family stays in Tokyo, Japan

Compare beds, kitchens and neighbourhoods in Tokyo when travelling with children.

Review documented rooms before booking online.

A room for your travelling party

Write down the number of adults and each child’s age before choosing accommodation. Confirm permitted occupancy, the beds provided and whether sharing an existing bed is allowed.

Facilities worth checking

Cooking and washing clothes affect how a family trip works. A private kitchen, a shared cooking area and a kettle serve different purposes.

The cost of the stay

Add room nights, mandatory taxes and the extras you actually want. An advertised reduction does not prove that the final cost is lower than another room’s.

Location and daily journeys

Connect the property with the places on your itinerary. Transfers, the correct station exit and luggage can matter as much as a stated distance.

Before confirming a booking

Read payment deadlines, cancellation rules and guest requirements. Booking services manage their own offers; this guide does not hold live room inventory.

In Tokyo, choose the neighbourhood you want to return to each evening. Ueno combines rail connections, a park and museums; Asakusa puts you around Senso-ji and the Sumida River. For four to six guests, compare sleeping places carefully: the total occupancy may include young children sharing beds.

Start with your family’s needs, then check the specific rooms. Conditions can vary within the same property.

Which neighbourhood suits you?

Ueno

Ueno Park brings together museums and a zoo. Check the route from the right station exit: a hotel near Ueno may be on the opposite side of the railway.

Asakusa

Senso-ji, Nakamise and the Sumida riverfront give you places to explore locally. Check which railway serves the Asakusa station you will use on arrival.

Planning your journeys

Ueno is served by Tokyo Metro’s Ginza and Hibiya lines; Keisei Ueno is a separate station. In Asakusa, distinguish the Ginza, Toei Asakusa and Tobu services. A walking estimate from a station exit does not establish a step-free route.

Questions before you go

Does capacity for six mean six separate beds?

No. MIMARU Asakusa Station’s One-Bedroom Apartment has four single beds and one two-person bunk bed. Other occupancy totals may include children sharing existing beds.

Is laundry available at MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East and Asakusa Station?

MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East and MIMARU Tokyo Asakusa Station have shared coin laundries. Ueno East’s Apartment (4 Single-Beds) and Asakusa Station’s One-Bedroom Apartment do not have an in-room washer-dryer.

Choose by your needs

Cheap hotels

Compare the cost for the whole family, including mandatory taxes and fees. A per-person rate cannot tell you which room costs less.

Budget hotels

Compare dated rates for the same party, then add the costs of your stay. A kitchen or laundry facility does not by itself make a hotel economical.

Comfortable hotels

Start with room size, beds and space for luggage. A comfortable stay also depends on what your children need.

Family hotels

Choose a room that accepts your full party. Check the bed-sharing rules for each child’s age before booking.

Luxury hotels

Check which services your family can actually use. Breakfast, lounge access and facilities may depend on the room you book.

Hotels with a spa

Separate spa treatments from swimming pools and Japanese bathing facilities. Opening times and minimum ages may restrict children’s access.

Hotels with a pool

Check seasonal opening, children’s access and any extra charge. A listed pool does not guarantee access for every guest at every time.

Hotels with parking

Check height restrictions, space reservations and the nightly charge. A nearby car park is not necessarily operated by the hotel.

Apartment hotels

Compare dining space, kitchen facilities and housekeeping arrangements. A kitchenette does not mean every room has a washing machine.

Business hotels

Check occupancy before choosing a business hotel. A desk and transport links do not mean a room will fit a family.

Hotels for short stays

For one or two nights, compare check-in and check-out times with your journey. Ask the hotel to confirm luggage storage.

Hotels for long stays

For a longer visit, cooking, laundry and housekeeping matter. Check payment terms and what happens if you leave early.

Rooms for four to six people

Count actual beds and permitted guests. Four beds do not automatically mean six people can occupy a room.

Hotels with connecting rooms

Ask for an internal connecting door. Two adjacent rooms or rooms on the same floor are not necessarily connecting rooms.

Accommodation with a kitchen

Check cooking facilities, utensils and dining space in your chosen room. A fridge or kettle alone is not a kitchen.

Accommodation with laundry facilities

Separate an in-room washing machine, shared laundry and a laundry service. Check drying facilities and charges when planning what to pack.

Ryokans

Check bedding, meals and children’s policies. A ryokan does not automatically include an onsen or a private bath.

Accommodation with private baths

Distinguish an in-room bath from a bath booked for private use. Onsen status and children’s access need separate confirmation.
